Teen’s body found on powerline trail launches ‘suspicious death’ investigation

Authorities are investigating the death of a teenager found on a powerline trail in Alaska.

Alaska State Troopers reported the body of 16-year-old Alena Toennis was found on a powerline trail in Wasilla, Alaska, early morning.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case. They are investigating it as a suspicious death due to the evidence found at the scene.

Crystal Drake Toennis, Alena’s aunt, posted on social media saying Alena’s body was found behind a business in the area of Seldon and Bogard Roads.

A spokesperson for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District confirmed that Toennis was a former student in the district before dropping out last year. Her family confirmed the last school she was enrolled in was Mat-Su Central School.

Alaska State Troopers have not responded to a request for comment.
