I chose the military because me personally
although I had like I can have like three or four scholarships to go to college
I knew that I I don't wanna say mentally but I wasn't really ready to jump into
college I don't want to go to school because that's what everybody else is
doing or that's what you're supposed to do I wanted to see life from a
different point of view I wanted to do something like different something cool
no one in my family is in the military so this is like new I guess you could
say like I don't go back the first one so I just thought it would be cool to
join and just kind of do something different like being young and traveling the
world or you know shooting guns or you know doing just something out of the
ordinary when I was 17 years old you have to be at least 18 to join without
parental consent so of course my mom had to sign for me she didn't want to sign
but she said that if I went to school still like while being in the military or
getting out and using my GI Bill or whatnot that she would sign for me like I
just had to promise her that I would go so if I did that okay why I chose the
name um I chose the Navy for the uniforms well that's really what grabbed my
attention I love the blue like the I just thought it was so cute so I was like
yeah that that's that that's what I want to do that that's that's what I want
to wear
everything and then I was like well let me look more into it before I
just join so then I was like well they travel more you know I get to go place and
I want a ship you know something different I'm not just on land or just doing
whatever they do on land that's merely what happy doing even with the traveling
party looking like a jean you know so my ring and raped experience I am a new
port for operations specialist third class operation special class damn
operation specialists being my rate or job in the Navy which is what I do and
then my rank is a third class Petty Officer so well in the Navy world I'm just
considered os3 that's just what they call me as oh hey no Street what you know
okay I wish penis oh hey mister can you do that like that's just what we call
each other but as far as like people who don't know or don't understand the
concept I'm a third class petty officer to Navy okay so I make three years in
the Navy in July this year actually yeah July 21st I would make three years in
the Navy I do plan on realistic for another four years I guess I just like it
that much you know maybe has my heart oh no I don't enjoy it though I mean it's
the decision I made that I don't regret there's clearly there's a lot of
benefits as we all know and it just doesn't really changed my life it really
opened my eyes just so much and I'm grateful I'm grateful I got the opportunity
to join so bootcamp um my bootcamp experience was actually pretty lit when I of
course when I went to boot camp I was really nervous as any would be I I really
didn't know what they expect you never really know until you're actually going
through it and it was it was cold like honestly the food was bomb like like
like look you wake up every day looking forward for breakfast looking forward
for lunch because the food was just so good like if I could go back and redo or
just stay in bootcamp just for the food I would as I said well you never get
food like that well being in the Navy now like on the shipments up you would
never get that type of good quality greatness food and who doesn't love food so
yeah besides the food of the fitness so I I work out a lot I just I just want
this is what I love so it makes me happy but I thought that I was gonna go to
boot camp in be like shredded like you know buff have muscles on top of muscles
but no I look like what a big did like we did our first workout I was like what
are we doing like did we do it like these load these little British I don't
know what we was doing enough why is this supposed to be like so talk to the
stretcher something like I thought I was gonna go to boot camp and I was gonna
leave look at my Serena Williams and I was like dang I'm just enjoying the
wrong branches no because like we looked like it just it was nothing like I
expect the disappea it was actually really really easy and I just oh it was
it's more as simple than you think that it would be and I feel like it's like
that because not everybody like I said not everybody works out but as I do or I
don't work out like everybody everyone is different everyone's fitness
lifestyle and everything is different some people don't even like to work out
but they you know that that shouldn't be able to stop them from joining so I
feel like the standards as far as working out or fitness in general isn't like
hi because we're not like soldiers we're not fighting like going out there
fighting people were on ships so I think it's different so being a female in
the military um so when I joined my I want to say it was a big concern but like
one of my concerns was like okay well am I gonna like still be able to be as
girly as I am because I really really girl it's like our wear makeup and you
know my eyelash is always done I was always done you know like just it's just
that's just how I am but I just I wasn't sure how it was gonna be and it's
actually really normal like it's if you like you I don't know it's normal from
being a female like in the both in the military in general is it isn't that big
of a like different or whatnot from being a male I guess they're really big on
equal-opportunity so you don't really have to worry about like they're working
you harder because you don't like measure up so like being
guy or anything
like that of it's nothing like that everyone's pretty much treated equally and
I think that's really good and it helps like people just come together as a
whole and just work together so makeup makeup is definitely allowed you know
just don't overdo it either and I don't go to work every day look at my RuPaul
just make sure you keep everything sub-minimum you know lashes lashes lashes
are okay you can't have eyelash extensions you can wear false either I knew I
do its visuals but they can't be like excessively long like you don't want to
fly away or anything like that you wanna be able to stay on the boat like safe
now just make sure they're you know add a good link you know same thing with
hair you can wear weaves you can have braids you know I push my hair up often
just make sure that it's in standard so the typical sander is like the bun it's
like the little button in the back if you can see so that's really what the
standard is so if you have braids you know make sure your brace can go in so
funny yeah I stay with my name's on all time my nose are always done as long as
the color is conservatives like well my conservative like i sticked I typically
stick to nudes and pinks because it like it just complements my skin doesn't really
detract from the uniform I had like a baby ping right now it's really cute I
don't know if you have to see that but you have the big pink so yeah so being a
girl in the military or being feminine in the military isn't that hard Isis for
the easiest pretty six deployments okay this is like one of the biggest
questions that everyone asked about things about talks about was worried about
what they were to join a military so I've been on one deployment right now I'm
on a destroyer ship the USS Mason and I went on to plummet with them in 2016
when I first when we first got underway or out to sea so people can understand
what I'm talking about I was like you're on a ship with 300 people it's it's
really honestly like high school you see the same people every day like there's
rumors and drama it's just like you're on a boat it's like this is real yeah
like if I haven't like this isn't really real like I'm really on this buddy and
I'm not going nowhere I'm not going no time soon so it's at a point where my
mind just became immune to it's like this little brother gonna be first several
months and why we were going to do it is it's up you know there was your good
days
there was your bad days you kind of get into a routine so it goes by
faster now that I'm looking back on it I really enjoyed it and I cannot wait
for our next deployment I actually deployed next year 2019 so I'm really
excited for that so the traveling yes you do travel a lot we were going to wear
it probably hid in a port every month at least at the minimum where did we go
we went to we went to Italy we went to Greece twice we went to Spain we went to
Bahrain Oman Ireland there was so many more places we were supposed to go to
but you know things changed schedule change water changes water the waves changed
everything you know things happen so but I I shopped a lot like when I was in
Ireland their clothes out there like just the scenery the people I just lit
like the UK in general is great like I was would go back something like
dislikes about the Navy of course every job or field of career has its pros and
cons cons being away from your family I have no family in Virginia I don't even
I've never even thought that I would ever be in Virginia like I just came here
with nothing it's something to get used to but I mean everyone in the military
goes through it so that is a vidcon deployments the cons of deployments I went
into that aspect is being away you're gone for seven to eight to nine months
Authority so yes when it comes to Authority and having to listen to other
people having people tell you what to do that's one that's one reason why I
have a lot people don't know I don't like people tell me what to do I'm money
and so what to do well newsflash whatever job I mean go to at some point in
time you're like you're gonna be told what to do it's just that's just that's
just wrong but as far as most it goes yeah there's some times or you someone
will tell you to do something and it might be the stupidest thing in the world
he'd be like look about the dude announce it like it's just but you captain
that's just how it is that's how it is so yeah so as far as dislikes for me it
would just be like you know the authority thing you know and but that being
